After becoming the first African to win the Albanian Super Lig with FK Tirana, Emmanuel Ndubuisi Egbo has described the league as similar to the Italian league, www.totorinews.com reports.
Egbo, former Nigerian goalkeeper, who was in the Super Eagles team that won the silver medal at Ghana/Nigeria AFCON tournament in 2000, informed that the Albanian league is a pure European football that cannot be compared to the Nigerian league.
“Albanian league cannot be compared to Nigerian league. The league is pure European football, of a very higher standard, similar to that of Italian football”, Egbo told NSM WhatsApp platform on Monday evening.
“The country is nearer to Italy, so they play similar type of football. Tactically strong and physically strong.
“Nigeria football is more of a mixture of skills, strength and entertainment. Albanian football is more of tactics and physical football.
As the first African coach to win the Albania Super Lig title, Egbo revealed that the people of Albanians gave him warm welcome into the country while he was active playing football and having learnt the language, culture and tradition of the people, it was easy for him to fit in properly into the country as a coach after his retirement as a professional footballer.
He added that it was the grace of God that helped him to remain focused with hardwork as he followed strong regiment of training sessions where he impacted his knowledge and philosophy of the game into his players and all these enabled him to win the league title in Albania.
“The people are very friendly and homely. I speak their language very well and I understand their culture and tradition, and these things are vital to succeed.
“It is the grace of God that makes a coach to succeed. I worked very hard with the entire technical crew and the players and I remain grateful to God for the success the team achieved this season by winning the league title,” he concluded.
FK Tirana have now won the league 25 times and they will fly the flag of Albania in UEFA Champions league in 2020/21 season.
The last time the team won the league was in 2009.
