Army Solicits Support from Media to Promote Peace, Eradicate Fake News Syndrome


The Nigerian Army has urged the media and Nigerians to promote peace and support the activities of the Nigerian Army, especially in this period when the nation is facing a series of security challenges.

The chief of civil-military Affairs, Maj. Gen. Usman Muhammad stated this at the 9th edition of the 1-Day Interactive Session on Civil-Miltary Relations organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Civil-Military Affairs in partnership with Security Affairs Limited.

The theme of the seminar is :The Evolving Role of the Social Media in Support of the Nigerian Army’s Non -Kinetic Line of Operations.
Muhammed noted that the forum was organized to provide the Nigerian Army necessary and needful opportunity to interact, discuss, share ideas particularly towards eradication of fake news syndrome.

Major Muhammed said ” it is important for Nigerians to know that, the Army has not only a role to protect the nation but also to promote a good relationship with the citizens”.
According to him, “the seminar which started in 2018 in Porthacourt is the Nigerian Army’s way of interacting with the civil populace to foster the harmonious and cordial relationship. It is also a continuous event that will allow the Nigerian Army receive feedback on how to serve the Nigeria populace better”.

In his words, Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu represented by his Special Adviser on New Media, Olabode Richard stressed the need for Nigerians to join hands together to stop the spread of fake news.

The Executive Director, Security Affairs Limited, Mr. Austin Peacemaker said the initiative is to engage social media influencers and the general public on the effects of fake news on the security of the country.
