Friendship Unbroken : ATAS DELSU ’98 set celebrates 21 Years Reunion

By Francis Achi, Sao Paulo, Brazil

Last Saturday was a beautiful weekend of fun, excitement and sweet memories of friendship that began when destiny connected them as fresh students of Theatre Arts Department, Delta State University, Abraka in 1994 and they graduated in 1998.

Having graduated 21 years ago, these young strong breeds that set ablaze the Abraka university community with their theatrical creativity went their seperate ways in service to their fatherland during their NYSC days.

The national service ended as they entered into the new millennium. Destiny took them to different parts of the country, few others went for greener pastures in the United States, Canada, Ireland and India.

Despite the different routes these thespians have taken, the bond of their friendship remains the same, the flames  of their love keeps burning and indeed friendship unbroken was witnessed when majority of these coursemates came together to celebrate their 21 years reunion.

From Lagos, the quartet of Elvis Daniel, Alex Ibehre, Frank Oyorigho and Justice Atigogo landed Asaba for the reunion groove.

The beautiful duo of Clark-Appah Pere and Clark Joanna came from Yenogoa, Bayelsa state. From Benin city, Edo state came Kingsley Anyira and Henry Mudiaga Asagba represented Abuja as yours truly, Francis Achi at the time of filing this report  is on national assignment in Brazil with the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria. The team is preparing for the 2019 Brazil FIFA U 17 World Cup.

The Asaba brigade as they fondly called hosted the event. The bulk of the strong breeds in ATAS class resides in the city and they were fabulous hosts.

Henry Demesi, Obanyedo Edna, Eruotor Oke, Ufuoma Onotue, Osihifor Syndey, Atakere Ferguson, Anyali Francis, Iyaruwe Onome, Oroguncha Golda, Mordi Charity, David Nwofili and Anthony Ejogu showed their great hospitality as the hosts of the event.

Coming from Ozoro and Kwale in Delta state were the duo of Ubido Godswill and Egugbo Kingsley.

Others that could not make it physically at Asaba followed the update on WhatsApp group and social media handles of their fellow coursemates.

Of course the ladies have turned to mothers , but they still remain beautiful in motherhood, nurturing their husbands and children with love. What about the guys? Most of them, their six packs figure have been exchanged for robust round belly looking figures as fathers and loving husbands to their wives and children.

As they sang, gisted and danced, something came out of the blues like in the movies, Henry Mudiaga Asagba, a broadcast journalist in Abuja and media aide to the Deputy Senate President , Senator Ovie Omo-Agege knelt down and proposed to his pretty fiancee, she accepted the love proposal and jubilation was in the air among the thespians and everyone gathered. Waoooo…they chorused.

Kudos to the special trio of Obanyedo Edna, Elvis Daniel and Henry Demesi, members of the organising committee of 21 years reunion groove of ATAS DELSU ’98 set.

These great brains of Thespians are stronger together and it is hoped that this friendship will remain unbroken and it will be celebrated for many more years.

  1. So happy to read about this. 2007 Class did such a reunion about two years ago and they had it hosted in the Department. I wonder if the 1998 class involved the Department at all. If they didn’t, it’s an idea they should explore next time. And to also imagine that the one, who planted the Department and processed their admission,
Prof. Sam Ukala, lives in Asaba and wasn’t invited to their celebration! Una do me dis one-o, but I forgive you because you’re children.
