It has been revealed exclusively to totorinews.com how Arsenal Fc of England frustrated Malcolm Ebiowei after the youngster honoured the invitation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), to be in the camp of the Golden Eaglet in October last year.
According to a reliable source closed to Arsenal FC, the invitation from Nigeria for Ebiowei to join the Golden Eaglets camp was not expected and the club was very reluctant to release, but his representatives and the player himself welcomed the idea and never wanted to lose the opportunity.
“The invitation was during the final camping phase of the National U 17 team of Nigeria in preparation for the 2019 Brazil U 17 World Cup and when the teenage football sensation honoured the invitation, it did not go down well with the management of Arsenal,” the top source revealed.
“The management of Arsenal FC of London, England never wanted Malcolm Ebiowei to honour the invitation. He was given subtle threat that if he honours the invitation, then the club may not be favourable disposed to offer him football scholarship he rightly deserves.
“16 years old Ebiowei went ahead to take the next available flight to Abuja, Nigeria to be in the camp of the Golden Eaglets where he showed some of his potentials to make it to Sao Paulo, Brazil camp of the team before the commencement of the tournament.
“Unfortunately, he was dropped from the team and it was as if the world had crumbled on the young lad, but he braced up and having taken positives lessons while in the camp of the Golden Eaglets, went back to England and continued to nurture his game.
“There was no doubt that Ebiowel is hugely talented, but it is best known to the management of Arsenal the reason the club denied the dynamic attacking midfielder a football scholarship just because he decided to honour the invitation from NFF to be in camp of the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria.
“He made his debut for Arsenal U 18 side last August at just 15 years old which reflected his sublime football talent and it is still shocking to a lot of football experts and pundits in the United Kingdom how Arsenal failed to give him a much improved contract.
“It was therefore not a surprise when some clubs in United Kingdom and Europe made enquiries about the player who had the record to have featured for Netherlands U 15 and England U 16 teams respectively.
“Bayern Munich of Germany, Paris St. Germaine of France, Glasgow Rangers, Manchester City, Manchester United, Everton, West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers were all on the queue to sign him, but it was the Scottish football giant that eventually signed him on a three – year deal,” he concluded.
He made his debut for Rangers in the Scottish Youth Cup semi final game against Aberdeen on Friday, which ended in 2-1 defeat against Rangers.
