N-SIP : Silent revolution against poverty in Nigeria

Francis Achi, Abuja

Silent revolution against poverty in Nigeria is on-going through the National Social Investment Programmes ( N-SIP), www.totorinews.com reports.

N-SIP  is powered by National Social Investment Office (NSIO) under the office of the Vice President,  Professor Yemi Osinbajo in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Many Nigerians may not be aware of the giant strides that N-SIP have achieved in  putting smiles on the faces of millions of  ever vibrant Nigerian Youths and the milk of kindness that has been shown to the poor of the poor to alleviate them from the shackles of poverty through the implementation of some of the programmes of the N-SIP across the Federation.

Nigerians should be hopeful of “Next Level” of progress as about 20 million Nigerians have benefited from different programmes initiated by the National Social Investment Office (NSIO) aimed at reducing the high level of poverty in the most populous black nation in the world.

This was contained in the document titled “investing in our people”, received from Hajia Maryam Uwais, Special Adviser to the President on National Social Welfare Programme,  who also coordinates the National Social Investment Programmes (N-SIP) as she to brought to light the achievements of the various programmes that are sincerely implemented to tackle hardship in the land caused by poverty.

Interestingly is the fact half a million young Nigerian graduates and non-graduates are part of the beneficiaries of the NSIP and not excluding 12 million Nigerian children that have tasted the good of National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).

“500,000 graduates, 100,000 non-graduates have benefited from the ‘Job Creation and Youth Employment (N-Power). Also, 12 million Nigerian children were fed through one of its programmes called National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).

“A million poorest households directly received the N5,000 monthly stipend paid to the poorest of the poor within Nigeria through National Cash Transfer Programme.

Knowing fully well how difficult it is for petty traders to raise additional cash that could take their trade to the next level of profit,  N-SIP through its special programme,  Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) has  assisted these petty traders through the investment to their petty trade.

“Petty traders nationwide were not left out as they were also beneficiaries as Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) which targets 2.5 million petty, micro, small and medium enterprises received cash to help boost their different trade.

“In addition, the lives of eight million and seven hundred thousand (8,700,000) secondary beneficiaries comprising cooks,  farmers,  poor and vulnerable citizens of Nigeria have also been touched by N-SIP.

The journey out of poverty may not come easily,  but with the sustained efforts of N-SIP,  there is no denying the fact that Nigeria has taken a giant step in the right direction towards the path of prosperity, which may become glaring in the nearest future
