Super Eagles : You have to know when to let go – Mikel confesses

Francis Achi, Cairo

Having enjoying bench role in key games for the Super Eagles at the on- going AFCON 2019 tournament in Egypt due to injury, Mikel Obi, captain of the Super Eagles has admitted that time is clocking towards against in the national team, totorinews reports.

Mikel did not feature for Nigeria in tension soaked game the Super Eagles played against Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Saturday in round 16 and the quarter final cracker against Bafana Bafana on Tuesday, but he said he is very glad that the players did the job without him.

“I think it was a good game. The players did very well. I’m proud of the team, proud of the boys. This is what football is. You have to know when to let go. I have been here for 13 years and played every game that i have been here.” Mikel told totorinews

“So for not to play in two or three games will not kill me. I gave it all, i have it all and done it all on my part. Now the young ones can carry on with the job and they will also have other young ones that will carry on when their time draws near too in the national team,” he added.

Mikel, Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo are the only three surviving members of the Super Eagles squad that won the AFCON 2013 in South Africa.
