As many football pundits and enthusiasts kept wondering why Gernot Rohr failed to field Victor Osimhen in Egypt 2019 AFCON tournament, the Franco – German tactician of the Super Eagles has revealed to totorinews reasons Osimhen is yet to kick a ball in the tournament.
Rohr said the young Nigerian striker has always been in his plans, though injury prevented him from playing at the group matches and the tactical formation deployed in the quarter final and semi final matches, the dramatic turn of event at the closing stages of both matches deprieved the former Golden Eaglet star the opportunity to taste action in those crucial games.
“Victor was injured and he recovered fully. He works hard in training and i felt he was ready and he could play a part in the quarter final game against South Africa. He was warming up. I wanted to play him if the game goes into extra time, but then we scored a goal and the game ended 90 minutes.” Rohr said.
“In the game against Algeria, i thought it was heading for the extra time where i would have brought in Victor but Algeria scored and it was over. Victor is in the Super Eagles. He also in the Under 23 and the experience he is getting in the Super Eagles will help him more when he plays for Under 23 team.
It is hoped that Rohr will field Osimhen in the third place game against Tunisia this evening.
